Joel Corriveau responds:
When you are starting a painting you must make a few decisions. Oil or Acrylic. There are many pros and cons between these two paints.
First you must determine how much time you have as acrylic paints dry much faster than oils. On the other end of the time spectrum oils take a great deal of time to dry allowing you an extended painting time.
The next major swaying factor is if you prefer subtle blends or hard lines. Smooth blends can be achieved with acrylics however you do have to work quickly. Due to oils slow drying time they have fantastic subtle blends.
The final difference is color fading. Acrylics color will not fade even several hundred years into the future. Oil's color will tend to fade slightly after drying and will continue to fade over the years.
Acrylics make sense for Paint Nights because people want to take home a completed dry painting at the end of the evening.
